7 Foot Knoll Lighthouse, Baltimore on Flickr.
This is one of the many, many lighthouses that dot the American coast. It’s a sign of times past, and thus a perfect candidate for AbandonWhere, even if it is a bit better maintained than most things I post.
The lighthouse was opened in 1855, automated in 1949, and abandoned entirely in 1988. It moved to its current location in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore in 1989 and has been educating people about lighthouses ever since.
Not all things abandoned in the march of technology need to fade away, as this survivor of time shows. Taken in August 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland with my Droid Incredible.
